WFN and Garneau Baits Pro Tommy Robinson Scores Big on the Detroit River
39th Place at Walmart FLW Tour Open, Detroit River (Aug. 23-26, 2012)
With a 39th place finish during the FLW Tour Open – Detroit River, I was able to receive a good payday and move to 35th in the standings catching 10 smallmouth bass weighing 34 pounds 8 ounces. 39th place paid $9,360.
I chose to drive 50 miles north into canadian waters on Lake St. Clair. Once there I found the lake to be very calm. The lures that I used to help me with 16.8 lbs on day one and 18 lbs on day two, are the Garneau drop shot worm, the ThorAks Bald head jigs.
On day two I also used a deep diving crankbait. I used a Revo Toro reel lined with 10 lb Berkley fluorocarbon on a 7″3 Abu Garcia Veritas rod. Without the Veritas rod it would have been difficult to land the 3 and 4 lbs Smallmouths. These rods have the give to allow the fish to inhale the bait and the power to finish the fight. The next Tour event will be held on Wheeler Lake AL. Sept. 20-25.
